GMANews.TV - Monday, January 11

Another government Web site was found defaced Sunday night - the fifth attack since last month.

Hackers of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Web site, however, took on a bolder approach by leaving a message that seemed to mock the upcoming automated elections.

“Ano ba gagamitin sa Election? Blade server? Juniper Firewall (what is going to be used in the elections? Blade server? Juniper firewall)?" the message read.

Resolutions Worth Keeping The Origins of New Years' Resolutions, and One Famous List

Like other Christian festivals, the celebration of New Years Day in the West started before the church came into existence.

At first, the Romans celebrated the beginning of the new year on March 1, not January 1. Julius Caesar instituted New Year's Day on January 1 to honor Janus, the two-faced god who looks backwards into the old year and forwards into the new. The custom of "New Years resolutions" began in this earliest period, as the Romans made resolutions with a moral flavor: mostly to be good to others.

The World Before the Genesis

Does the Bible really too new for the world? It is said in the Bible that “So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations” (Matt. 1:17) and Adam to Abraham generations, even though not mentioned, would not be as many as generations from Abraham to Jesus. So when we count the number of years from Adam to Jesus it would possibly not make a million years even we add the 2000 years after Christ. The man who lived the longest period was Methuselah who lived for 969 years (Gen. 5: 21-27). And if we multiply such number of years to every generation from Adam, it would still not reach a million years otherwise the years they knew before is different from the years we perceive at present.

Panahong isinilang ang aking blog
Panahong ako'y malungkot at walang magawa
Panahong nagiisa at walang makausap

Oracle is trying to buy Sun, and since Sun bought MySQL last year, Oracle would then own MySQL. With your support, there is a good chance that the EC (from which Oracle needs approval) could prevent this from happening or demand Oracle to change the terms for MySQL or give other guarantees to the users. Without your support, it might not. The EC is our last big hope now because the US government approved the deal while Europe is still worried about the effects.

Filipino Kids Internet Usage Posts 13% Growth

Posted by David D'Angelo in Information and Trivia

Here is an article from New Media Philippines which discusses the recent study done by Synovate commissioned by the Cartoon Network on Filipino kids ages 7-14 years old.  The study found out that most Filipino kids are spending more time online compared to playing console games, listening to music, and reading non-school books. Internet usage is second only to watching TV.

Here is the article:

In a study done by Synovate commissioned by the Cartoon Network, Filipino kids 7 – 14 years old are spending more time online compared to playing console games, listening to music, and reading non-school books. Internet usage is second only to watching TV. If you think about it, this was kinda expected due to the increasing number of internet cafes all over the country combined with the aggressive marketing and roll-out of broadband service providers.
